Participate in the meeting Call for AbstractsAbstracts are requested from any members of the NEES community interested in giving technical presentations associated with one of the topical areas identified for the technical sessions. To be considered for the Fourth Annual Meeting, extended abstracts (2 or 3 pages) must be received by NEESinc no later than Monday, March 27, 2006; a sample abstract has been posted to the Annual Meeting website. Abstracts may be submitted via email to info@nees.org, and authors of abstracts are also invited to present a poster.Presentations will be included under the following technical tracks: Pushing Experimental Boundaries Abstracts are requested that discuss new or enhanced capabilities at the NEES experimental sites, and that suggest needed capabilities with the potential to expand the range of experimental opportunities. Example topics include advances in hybrid testing methodologies, improved centrifuge model containers and robotics, applications to blast protection, and field and portable equipment enhancements. Sensors and Instrumentation Technology Abstracts are requested that demonstrate successful use of new instrumentation and sensor technology available at NEES equipment sites and other laboratories. Examples include wireless technology, MEMS sensors, lasers, fiberoptics, miniature sensors, dense sensor arrays, cameras, tomography, close range photogrammetry, etc. Ideally the abstracts will include real data from NEES experiments that demonstrate the value of new instrumentation for solving earthquake engineering problems. Numerical Simulations of NEES Results/Data Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, development of new numerical and computational algorithms/models, computational modeling/simulation in support of NEESR projects, results and/or data repositories, integration of simulation and experimentation, simulation/ visualization of dynamic data, web-based platforms for data simulation/ visualization, data reduction methods, algorithms and platforms, and methods/ procedures for experimental measurements that better support numerical and computational simulation. The abstracts should be related to current NEESR, NEES Site, or NEESit activities, or directly address the overall goals of NEES. Technical Advances Sessions I & II Abstracts are sought for two plenary sessions on technical advances resulting from the NEES program. One session will be aimed at demonstrating the technical potential of NEES. Presentations in the second session will have a common theme of what we have learned from collaborative research. NEESR Spotlight Sessions: New & Active Projects Abstracts are requested from both new and active NEESR/pre-NEESR projects describing project activities that embody the ideals of the NEES: collaborative endeavors for project preparation, experimental and numerical simulations, data management/IT, involvement with engineering practice professionals, and educational, outreach, and training activities. |
