NEES 6th Annual Meeting Awards Nominations

NEES community members are encouraged to submit entries for the 2008 NEES Awards to be presented at the Annual Meeting Banquet on June 18th in Portland, Oregon. Awards will be given in recognition of outstanding effort in one of four categories for the 2007-08 year:
  • Most Effective Education Outreach & Training (EOT) Activity
  • Best IT Innovation
  • Best Experimental Site Innovation
  • Outstanding Service to Researchers

Nominations may be made by earthquake engineering researchers unaffiliated with a NEES site / NEES research project or by affiliated researchers and staff as described below. In order to qualify for an award, the service described in the award should have been completed March 1, 2007-February 28, 2008.

Award Descriptions:

  • Most Effective Eduation, Outreach and Training Activity - awards for a particular educational, outreach or training event that demonstrate high impact or an innovative approach. The activity or project should emphasize NEES Equipment Sites or NEES research. Activities that have the potential for replication by other sites are especially encouraged.
    Eligibility: this category may include activities from NEES Equipment Sites, related to a NEES research project, or an activity by NEESinc/NEESit. Nominations: may be submitted by any member of the NEES community

  • Best IT Innovation is an award for a new IT technique or product developed during the past year. It can build upon existing technology in a fresh or innovative way, resulting in a tool for network-wide use, or be a time-saving use of existing technology. The innovation may have resulted in newly developed software or hardware.
    Eligibility: this category may include activities from NEES Equipment Sites, related to a NEES research project, or an activity by NEESinc/NEESit Nominations: may be submitted by any member of the NEES community

  • Best Experimental Site Innovation is an award to a NEES Site for the development of innovative experimental tools or techniques that permit the seismic research community experimental opportunities not previously possible. NEES Experimental Sites may be nominated by any member of the NEES community.
    Eligibility: this category may only include innovations at NEES Equipment Sites
    Nominations: may be submitted by any member of the NEES community


  • Outstanding Service to Researchers is an award to a NEES Site in recognition of research support services that greatly exceeded expectations to ensure project success. This can include facilitating data acquisition/storage, and improving IT capabilities, Maintenance & Calibration, or Safety at NEES Sites. NEES Site nominations can be made for service provided to continuing research projects, but should describe a phase or period of research that has been completed.
    Eligibility: this category may only include NEESR or Shared Use projects at NEES Equipment Sites
    Nominations: may be submitted by researchers only
