Assessment and Evaluation Tools

Introduction:
Assessment is usually classified as formative and summative, objective and subjective and informal and formal. Usually assessment focuses on formative and summative types of assessment. Formative assessment is performed throughout a course or project while summative assessment is done at the end. Objective assessment means that there is only one correct answer (true/false, multiple choice and matching) while subjective can include more than one answer, such as in essay questions. Formal assessment is found on written materials such as papers, tests and quizzes, and a score or grade can be given. Informal assessment is more casual and includes discussion, observation and the like, and no score or grade is given.

Note -
It is generally agreed that some practitioners in the field of evaluation treat the terms 'assessment' and 'evaluation' as if they are the same while others believe that evaluation is actually broader than assessment, and includes assessing the merit or worth of someone or something. We list links to definitions of both.
