Nominations Committee

The Nominations Committee is charged with the following:

• The NC shall oversee the development of slates of candidates for the following Member-elected vacant seats on the Board of Directors* and Nominations Committee opening through annual rotation:
  • One (1) Institutional Director to be elected by NEES Institutional Members;
  • One (1) Individual Director to be elected by NEES Individual Members;
  • Two (2) NC Members representing the Earthquake Researcher Representative and Earthquake Risk Stakeholder Representative constituencies to be elected by a combination of Individual and Institutional Members.
• For each of the vacancies identified above, the NC shall:
  • Provide more candidates than there are open positions to provide choices to the Members of NEESinc. In all cases, the committee shall provide a balance among different disciplines and backgrounds corresponding to the class of membership represented by the vacant seat.
  • Develop a list of NC-nominated individuals in consultation with the current Board, its other Standing Committees, and NEESinc staff.
  • Oversee a fair and open process (to be executed with NEESinc staff support) whereby any Member of NEESinc who has appropriate qualifications to fill a Board seat, for whom at least five Members (or 5% of the number of Members if the total number of Members is greater than 100) have stated in a timely manner that they wish to nominate the Member for that position, shall be included with the NC-nominated individuals on ballots and given the same opportunity to have statements distributed to the Members.
  • Oversee the process of contacting prospective candidates to verify they are willing to serve if elected and oversee the process of compiling statements from the candidates that can be distributed to the Members of NEESinc with ballots in advance of elections.
• Assist the Board with identification and recruitment of candidates representing the diverse NEES constituencies for possible service as Board-appointed members on Standing Committees.
