Please join us on December 1-2, 2005 at the beautiful campus of the University of California at San Diego for the NEES Diversity Workshop. This multi-disciplinary workshop will bring together professionals from diverse areas of expertise to collaborate on strategies to enhance the diversity of the NEES consortium, and of students entering earthquake engineering and other STEM subjects. The George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) is a national, networked, simulation resource that includes 15 geographically-distributed, shared-use, next-generation experimental research equipment sites housed at major research universities. This major research equipment facility, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), is designed to advance earthquake engineering research and education through collaborative and integrated experimentation, theory development, data archiving, and model-based simulation.

We would like to invite you to participate in the NEES Diversity Workshop we are hosting on December 1-2, 2005 (Thursday and Friday) at UC San Diego. There is no registration fee for the workshop, and NEESinc (the consortium's operating headquarters) will reimburse your travel and per diem expenses.

The Workshop will be aimed at developing version 2.0 of the Diversity Strategic Plan for the NEES Consortium, NSF's first engineering collaboratory (a coined term meaning collaborative laboratory). The workshop will also develop strategies and recommend partnerships to make lasting positive impacts in increasing the outstanding pool of diverse students entering Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

We feel that your participation would greatly add to the success of the workshop, and hope you are able to join us.
