Remote Participation in Seismic Testing of Concrete Walls: a Researcher's Experience with Telepresence Tools
Telepresence technology makes it possible for researchers, practicing engineers, and students to effectively participate in real-time testing, even when they are off-site. Join Sri Sritharan of Iowa State University to hear a first-hand account of participating remotely in seismic tests, including:
- How telepresence tools enable participants to interact with both people and equipment, as well as manipulate test data in real time
- How real-time participation in testing can benefit analytical simulation
- Descriptions of different telepresence technologies used in the project
- Recommendations for improving the capabilities of telepresence tools
You will also learn about the research project, funded by the National Science Foundation, which is investigating the behavior of nonrectangular structural walls during earthquakes by subjecting large-scale rectangular and T-shaped concrete walls to multi-directional loading.
